The SDDL League Fixtures for the Winter 2019/20 season are now available on the SDDL Website www.swindonddl.co.uk
Due to our continued success this season we had 76 teams entering the league which is fabulous but also brings a few headaches.
This number of teams would lends itself more to 8 divisions of 10 teams compared to what we previously had in the Summer.
With this in mind the divisions were drafted however this meant, amongst other things, that in some cases there were 3 teams coming down with only one team going up. Given the prize money is for the top 3 in a league, it was felt this would be unfair on teams finishing 2nd and 3rd.
There was also the small matter of where to put the 2 new leagues and which teams went into those leagues, that would be needed to accommodate the new teams and smaller league format.
After much deliberation the committee felt that we should stick to 12 team divisions, to allow the proper promotion and relegation to occur and also naturally reflect the prize money awarded. This does, of course mean, the lower leagues have 2 byes, which is far from ideal, but we hope you all understand why we came to this decision. There is also a new F league introduced in the Winter, (we only went down to the E League last season and last Winter). As very few teams had not renewed, it was difficult to place new teams higher up, and as most of them had expressed a desire to play in the lower leagues, the fairest solution, we felt, was to put the new teams into the new F League. Leaving last season’s E League participants where they were. Teams will naturally find their own level over the course of the next few seasons.
Finally we had constructed the league format! Worked out who needed to play at home and who needed to be away.
Factored in Christmas and Easter, Singles and Pairs comps and the Team Comp then 2 teams withdrew
A slight reshuffle meant the 12 team divisions remain but we have had to carry the 2 byes up to the C League.
Again, given the work that has already been done, it was felt we should go with what we have drawn up.
We know that not everyone will agree with how this has been done but hope that you all appreciate the time and effort that goes into this.
Happy Darting !
